Cellar Ramon Andreu is a small winery located in the village of Caseres, at the westernmost part of Tarragona province. Ramon is an architect, and the land has belonged to Ramon’s family for many generations. When his grandfather passed away, Ramon inherited this plot “les Cometes” that nobody wanted. Like other rural areas of Spain, the problems of depopulation and a negative view of agriculture (no future, no money) are spread in Terra Alta, too.

In 2011, Ramon planted vines in Les Cometes farm, next to some vines that were already planted by his grandfather. A couple of years later, he started making wine with Joan Bada, a Terra Alta native winemaker who already received some fame with another winery that he owns. The result was satisfactory. The Cellar Ramon Andrew project makes him happy, and gives him satisfaction, friendship and hope.

In 2017, Ramon started selling his wine with his old friend Lluis, a native to Sant Feliu de Llobregat (where Ramon was born and bred), who runs a wine distribution company. Ramon wanted  to make his wine business more formal to see the reaction of consumers.

Starting with a small cellar and small production volume, Ramon’s aim is to contribute to the changing brand image of Terra Alta. Wines from Terra Alta have been considered poor, aggressive, low quality and not sophisticated. He would like to dedicate all profits ” from his wine project to protection of the land, changing quality of wine and contribute to social projects.

Vineyards

Ramon looks after his vineyards following sustainable farming methods. Soil type is calcareous and “Panal”, which is the typical soil type of Terra Alta. Panal is a blend of clay and limestone and some salt crystals. The surface of the soil is dry but inside contains humidity. The climate is continental with mediterranean influence.

CellaR

The cellar is built semi-underground, built into the rock. . So the space is limited but room temperature is stable throughout the year.
